A scrub fire in the rural settlement of Tītoki on the outskirts of Whangārei is now under control.
The blaze started yesterday afternoon and had spread across 130 hectares overnight.
While no homes were in danger, six helicopters were seen fighting the blaze today with an additional 30 firefighters at the scene.
Miles Thomas, a spokesperson for fire service reminded the public to be vigilant by saying, “Our advice to everybody is do the pre-planning now and don’t try and defend your property if the fire is coming towards you.”
A bulldozer and a digger have also assisted with efforts to control the Titoki scrub fire.
