Easter 2018 road toll higher than last year
The Easter road toll for 2018 is three times higher than last year.
A crash in Northland claimed two lives two days ago, bringing the Easter toll, which closed at 6 am, to six.
Police have arrested a 22-year-old driver in relation to the latest accident and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the government will focus on road safety in its upcoming government policy statement on transport.
"I think there are a number of initiatives that we should be looking at to increase the safety of our roads and we have the evidence to tell us the kinds of things to be investing in it, it just takes us prioritising it."
A total of 107 deaths have been seen our roads so far this year.
