Dame Georgina Te Heuheu acknowledged for services to Māori
Yesterday the Honourable Dame Georgina Te Heuheu was a made a Dame Companion of the Queen's Service Order for services to the state and Māori.
Dame Georgina served five terms for the National government until her retirement in 2011.
She was a cabinet minister who held ministerial portfolios for Courts, Pacific Island Affairs and Women’s Affairs.
She was appointed Chair of Māori TV board in 2012, a position she still occupies.
Dame Georgina is the widow of Tūwharetoa Ariki, Timi Te Heuheu.
