To celebrate the season of Matariki, ten carvers have come together to create a unique Māori lunar calendar stone compass.

It's hoped the portable compass will be a teaching resource for communities who want to learn about the Māori lunar calendar.

Those left tasked with the interweaving of our Māori ideologies are ten carvers from around the country.

Five of the carvers are from mana whenua and one carver is from Tonga.

The sculptured carvings will be on display on Saturday in Manukau's Civic Square.
