It was Australia Day at the Sydney Sevens.

The Black Ferns made it to the final only to be thrashed by the Aussies.

While the All Blacks Sevens made it to the quarters, they were similarly sent packing by our neighbours across the Tasman.

Portia Woodman showed her class for the majority of the tournament.

But when they got there, it was the Pearls who overpowered the Ferns.

The Black Ferns didn't cross the try line once, 31-0 the final score.

The All Black Sevens, despite seeing glimpses of confidence of some future stars it was to no avail!

Both teams sit second in the World Series rankings.

There’s still a lot of work ahead of both teams before the Commonwealth Games in the coming months.

The women will return to train and the men’s team will play in Hamilton this coming weekend.
