All Blacks end of tour side named, bursting with Māori talent
The All Blacks side also has a stack full of Māori talent in their end of year tour side also named today. It includes three Māori halfbacks Aaron Smith, TJ Perenara and Tawera Kerr-Barlow although Kerr-Barlow is leaving NZ rugby at the end of the year. Coach Steve Hansen says he is still one of the best halfbacks and his job is to choose the best, and it’s a bonus that they are all of Māori descent.
“He is a good player. He’s a stand out All Black. I think he’s been very unlucky to have competed in the same era as Aaron Smith and TJ. He would have played a lot more test matches. There’s not a lot between those three. So he’s contracted until the end of it. Our job is to pick the best team we can for New Zealand and the All Blacks and that’s what we’ve done.” – All Blacks Coach Steve Hansen
The side will play the Barbarians first up at Twickenham Stadium, London, 5 November.
