2017 annual road toll “simply shocking”
By Te Karere
While the Christmas holiday death toll is one of the lowest in the past decade, the annual road toll of 2017 was described by Associate Transport Minister Julie Anne Genter as "simply shocking.”
380 died on the roads in 2017, 50 more fatalities than the previous year.
That total is the worst since 2009 when 384 were killed.
The holiday period ended this morning with 12 people dying on the roads - seven fewer than last year.
