Originally from Wellington, actor Sam Bunkall, who plays surgeon Boyd Rolleston, grew up in a number of continents. He started primary school in Malaysia and began high school in Holland, before finishing his schooling at a boarding school in Wanganui.

Sam returned to Wellington to study drama at the prestigious New Zealand drama school, Toi Whakaari and Theatre Studies at Victoria University.

The thespian was first bitten by the acting bug while overseas, taking the stage in his first play in Holland, aged 12. He played a thief and confesses to having a huge crush on the lead actress.

As well as featuring in 20 th Century Fox blockbuster Avatar, the vegetarian has a solid background in New Zealand theatre projects, including the show Little Histories of the Life Ordinary.

Sam is a keen musician, dabbling in playing the drums, the guitar and electronics. He is also fond of writing and is currently working on a feature film script.

When Sam is off set he enjoys watching HBO tv series, and participating in providing rape prevention education in schools – a job he finds very rewarding.
