MKRNZ eliminated contestants, Teal & Sophie.

The Wellington hairdressing duo were eliminated from the competition, which means they miss out on a place in the Grand Final

In the semi-final round, three teams embarked on an epic cooking challenge.

Wanaka's Chris & Bex and foodie friends Heather & Mitch produced near-perfect meals, catapautling them to the final challenge next week.

Both teams received high praise from judges Pete and Manu, an impressive final score of 18/20.

At the end of the Instant Restaurant round, Teal & Sophie were sitting proudly at the top of the leaderboard.

This position earned them a special advantage, a fast-track to the semi-finals.

However it was unfamiliar territory for them, never having cooked in a Sudden Death round. The tension was high and they crumbled under the pressure.

The three teams faced their biggest challenge to date - catering for a wedding.

They all strived for perfection, given the nature of the special occasion.

Each provided a canapé, entrée and main for 80 guests.

Earlier in the competition, Teal & Sophie delivered dishes that showcased Teal's Cambodian and Vietnamese heritage.

But up against stiff competition, their experimental menu failed to deliver.

Pete was intrigued by their lychee and pork canapé, but didn't understand the addition of cream cheese.

Their entrée hit the spot, and Manu praised Teal for cooking the scallops perfectly, but the Asian slaw was lacking.

Although their Thai Beef Salad main had 10 out of 10 potential, a sauce that lacked punch saw them falter at the final hurdle.

Pete said, "you can leave with your heads held high. You've produced some amazing food for us, and for that we thank you."

Teal & Sophie said, "To be part of the MKR family was a life-changing experience. We have both felt honoured and humbled to showcase our heritage in our cooking. As this journey comes to an end, we've discovered that this has never been just a cooking show, but rather a journey to discover yourself. For that, we are most thankful."

The MKRNZ Grand Final airs Monday 27 November, at 7.30pm on TVNZ 2.
