Spaces we transformed: living/dining room

The Nelsons are a hard-working family born and bred in Otara. Swanie and Terry do lots of community work, running workshops for young Maori and Pacific Islanders and lead the local neighbourhood watch. Because of this, they've had very little time to put into their much loved 1970’s ex-state house.

The HOMEmade crew wanted to focus on the heart of the home and create a welcoming, comfortable space for friends, family and the wider community to enjoy. A feature of the new lounge was a huge custom built shelving unit and desk space. We also fitted it out with new blinds, light fittings and a new dining room table and chairs from The Warehouse.

This new indoor revamp, along with their awesome new deck, means the Nelson’s place will be the top of the list for gatherings from now on.

"This is exactly what I'd love to come home to - being able to relax, enjoy and unwind from the busyness of life - I can actually see myself doing that now," says Swanie.
