ITV has confirmed that the thriller Bancroft will return for another four-episode season, with Sarah Parish back as Elizabeth Bancroft.

When the first season finished Elizabeth had been promoted to Detective Chief Superintendent and DS Katherine Stevens, the only one who has suspicions about her, was in a coma.

The second season picks up the story after Elizabeth’s promotion.

“She’s popular with her colleagues, and her crime figures are down,” ITV said in a statement.

“However, her success comes at a price, as she’s lonely and estranged from her beloved son Joe and under pressure as a result of her dangerous pact with crime boss Daanish Kamara.”

Elizabeth will reportedly come up against a “chilling new antagonist” when her son finds himself mixed up in a double murder case.

“In Bancroft I wanted to explore a contentious anti-heroine, a woman we love and loathe in equal measure,” writer and creator Kate Brooke says.

“I’m thrilled to be continuing her story. In this new series the repercussions of her past actions will come back to bite her in ways she could never have expected.”

Will Elizabeth finally get her comeuppance? We’ll have to wait for season 2 to find out.

Filming for the new season will start later in 2018 in the North West of England.
