General Info & Deadlines

If requested creative materials do not meet the specifications expressed below, TVNZ will be unable to commence the campaign (Applicable for all advertising).

All HTML5 creative is to be 3rd party hosted with an adserving tag provided.

All video creative must be no louder than -18LKFS.

Standard advertising units must be received no later than 3 working days prior to the commencement of the campaign. All Rich Media Advertising (Floating Layers and Expanding Banners etc) must be approved at least 10 working daysprior to commencement of the campaign, with creative received no later than 5 working days prior to campaign commencement. Note: Please contact your Account Manager for other accepted data formats.

All creative specifications are based off the IAB standards which can be viewed here

Ad Unitstop

Across the site and apps you can purchase a day buy out of key ad units that appear on the Home Pages of each platform. These are:

Click-through Tags top

An active linking URL, not exceeding 128 characters, must be provided with all creatives. Click-through URLs must not contain spaces or the ‘&’ character. 

Video TVCstop

All video ads need approval from the Commercial Approvals Bureau; more information can be found on their website.

3rd party served video must have at least one mp4 file of approximately 700kbs included.

Assets must be 3rd party hosted and have an adserving tag provided or dispatched via Adstream, Dubsat, or eBus, and a key number is required for us to retrieve the file. If you don’t have an existing account with any of the above, we can put you in touch with the appropriate contact.

The audio level on Video ads across all TVNZ platforms must be -18 LKFS, i.e. Loudness compliant.

Rich Media Video Requirementstop

  • All VPAID creative must be VPAID 2.0 compliant and contain only HTML elements (No flash)
  • Creative must playback and complete without user interaction (i.e. Ad loads, plays out, and content resumes without interaction).
  • Interactive elements of the creative must have visible close buttons
  • Video content must auto resume after an interactive element has been closed (i.e. not require the user to hit play)
  • All creative elements must exist within the video player window (excluding companion banners)
  • Video Player controls must not be hidden, obscured or modified by the creative
  • VPAID Creative must be targeted to Desktop only
  • All VPAID creative is subject to TVNZ’s approval prior to campaign launch
  • Please refer to the IAB VPAID specifications for more detail

Companion mRec

For each individual TVC, you can choose to have a companion mRec. (Please contact your Account Manager for pricing); please refer to our standard banner specification. We can implement standard or click tracking enabled URLs for the TVC.

Please note, companion banners are only available on the tvnz.co.nz desktop site.

Ad Selector

Ad Selector is a high impact video ad unit that gives the viewer choice over the advertisement they watch. The user is presented with two or three options to choose from, when a selection is made the corresponding TVC plays. If a user doesn’t make a selection then one of the TVC’s plays automatically after a short duration.

Ad Hover

Ad Hover is a highly engaging Rich Media In-stream ad format that allows the user to interact with the ad to discover further content. An image appears over the top of the TVC while it plays. The user can then hover over the image to expand a microsite within the video player that contains images, video, calculators or even games. The Ad Hover has a companion mRec to support the video creative with a call to action message.

This unit must be made by the TVNZ creative team to ensure compatibility with our video player.

REQUIRED ASSETS:

  • 300x250 mRec (one only for the entire creative)
  • When supplying artwork for TVNZ to use, we need all source files, including fonts, libraries and a short readme file to describe what has been included and how to use them.

Expandable Creative (with Pre-Roll)

Add an Expandable Creative to accompany any Pre-roll Video Ad to capture the audience’s attention and convey a message. This is a high impact solution which is flexible allowing, creative freedom. This unit must be made by the TVNZ creative team to ensure compatibility with our video player. Please contact your Account service manager regarding this opportunity.


CREATIVE REQUIRED:

  • Video Ad (15-30secs)
  • 300x250 mRec
  • Assets (layered PSD file) for creating the custom Expandable Creative
  • Font files for text to be used
  • Required logos/branding guidelines
  • If applicable, storyboard for animation and wider campaign creative examples


EXPANDABLE CREATIVE GUIDELINES:

  • Creative is restricted to safe area (please refer to diagram)
  • Animation has a maximum duration of 15secs
  • Creative must auto close
  • Creative must have a visible close button
  • Creative must not cover the video controls area
  • Frequency capped to 1 per user per day
  • Requires creative sign-off from the TVNZ Digital Media content team

Sponsorship Player Skin

The Sponsorship Player Skin is only available across desktop browser. It is a non-clickable unit but integrates with a clickable 300x50 Call-To-Action Banner (please provide these as separate image files). Depending on the user’s screen resolution, different amounts of the wallpaper will be visible to the user. Please keep this in mind when designing to optimise the placement of key creative.

  • We recommend this player skin be image only for the best user experience.
  • The Player Skin and the CTA Banner must look like one integrated unit
