A selfie taken moments before takeoff by one of the 189 people who are feared dead after the Indonesian plane crash has surfaced.

Derly Fida Febrianto sent the picture of himself onboard flight JT-610 at 6:01am local time to his new wife Lutfinani Eka Putri minutes before the plane plunged 5000ft into the Java Sea, she told Indonesian media.

In the picture, Febrianto is seen wearing a surgical mask while sitting in his window seat with earphones in.

Lutfinani told reporters her husband had been messaging her from the aircraft up until 6:12am but stopped replying to her texts just three minutes later.

The 23-year-old said she and Febrianto, 22, had only been married two weeks after growing up together.

"When I saw the news, I matched the flight number with the ticket photo Deryl had sent," she said.

"I immediately started crying."

There were 188 passengers onboard the plane that left Jakarta this afternoon.

A search and rescue agency official told media this morning they're not expecting any survivors, with nine body bags already used so far.

The search is currently planned to last seven days and could be extended.
