Wheelchair-bound cancer survivor surprises daughter by walking her down the aisle

When American woman Heather Duquette looked ahead to her wedding, having her father there would be a dream-come-true in itself.

So when her big day came, she hardly expected him to stand up from his wheelchair, and hold her hand all the way to the altar.

I was blown away and completely speechless - Heather Duquette, the bride

Ralph Duquette has been under the grip of Leukaemia, enduring chemotherapy, blindness and at one stage, a five-day coma.

Heather told CBS 13 she and Ralph had agreed it wouldn’t be possible for him to walk her down the aisle at her wedding in the US state of Maine.

However, Ralph made it his mission to learn how to walk again, practising and building up his strength all summer to pull off the remarkable feat.

"I was blown away and completely speechless," Heather said.

"All I could do was cry and hope and pray we made it safely."

After the perfect ceremony, her father surprised her again by being able to do a father-daughter dance with her at the reception.
