A Florida park has turned into a churning ocean after Hurricane Irma unleashed it's power yesterday across the state.

Memorial Park in Jacksonville, which features a fountain and large grass area, has been swallowed by water along with much of the city as the hurricane tore through.

Waves can be seen splashing over the edge of the fence which separates the park from the St Johns River.

The city government issued a flash-flood emergency overnight, according to NBC News and ordered people to stay inside.

Levels of flooding have passed previous recorded highs in 1864 in downtown Jacksonville.
