Watch: Meghan Markle leaves tag on striking red dress, but delights Tongans with colour choice upon arrival in kingdom

October 26, 2018

The Duchess looked stunning upon arrival in Tonga, although she missed one important thing.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been a hit with the locals in Tonga as people lined the streets for kilometres to meet them.

Meghan Markle wore a striking red dress to celebrate Tonga's national colour, but she had a bit of a fashion faux pas as she left the plane in Nuku'alofa.

The duchess accidently left the tag on the Self-Portrait designed dress, spotted by people on social media.

It was a minor blemish from the duchess, who delighted the Tongan people by wearing the same shade of red as their flag, 1 NEWS' Barabara Deaver said.

Dreaver said Harry and Meghan's official welcoming with the Tongan royal family went well, and shared a story about the four-year-old daughter of Princess Frederica.

Beforehand, the youngster thought she woud be giving flowers to Elsa from Frozen.

1 NEWS’ Barbara Dreaver says the four-year-old daughter of Princess Frederica was a little unsure about who she would be meeting.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will meet with Tonga's prime minister and will be mixing with the locals before flying back to Sydney later today.

Prince Harry and Meghan will also attend a cultural exhibition of Tongan handicrafts and travel to the oldest secondary school in the Pacific.

They will return to Sydney for the final days of the Invictus Games, before leaving for New Zealand on Sunday.

NEWS reporters Barbara Dreaver and Nicole Bremner are in the Pacific for the fanfare.
