The scene begins calmly enough before conditions quickly deteriorate as day breaks.
The water around Miami Beach's Biscayne Bay can be seen churning as the swells pick up, with storm surge washing over a grassy patch on the lower left of the video.
The storm engulfed nearly all of Florida, from the state's southernmost point up to the Georgia line, from the Atlantic coast to the Gulf side.
Drone footage shows houses partially submerged in murky water, uprooted trees, widespread flooding, as well as roofing debris lying scattered next to homes that have been torn off in Irma's strong winds.
More than 6.5 million homes and businesses statewide lost power, and 220,000 people huddled in shelters.
Officials warned it could take weeks for electricity to be restored to everyone.
