Watch: Hundreds cheer Fiji's opposition leader, now cleared to stand in election

Fiji's opposition party leader Sitiveni Rabuka has had an electoral fraud appeal against him dismissed, which means he can stand in Wednesday's general election.

The appeals court judgement in Suva comes during a media election blackout in Fiji – if Mr Rabuka had been disqualified from standing, voters would not have found out.

Last week Mr Rabuka told 1 NEWS he had faith in the judicial system and would respect its decision.

"I know what happened, I know I am innocent, God knows I am innocent," he said.

Mr Rabuka exited the courtroom today surrounded by supporters – with another 500 outside the building singing and cheering

Fiji’s general election is on Wednesday.
