Watch: Is this flying car which takes off vertically the future of transport?

A vertical take-off and landing jet with speeds of up to 300km/h is touted to be the future of transport and has made its maiden flight just yesterday.

The Lilium jet is powered by electricity, and is predicted to be as easy to order as an Uber.

It has the ability to take off vertically.

The website states it should reduce travel times and is 100 per cent emission free.

The first fully functional jet is expected to take off in 2019, and in 2025 people will be able to order their on-demand air transport, says the website.

The first flight was made near Munich, Germany.
