Video shows the snake slithering around on the pavement outside The Morrison Bar & Restaurant on George St yesterday afternoon.

A snake handler was called in to deal with the serpent.

"According to the snake handler ... it is incredibly rare to see this kind of snake in the city," The Morrison's marketing manager Marissa Demetriou told Nine News.

She said the snake was badly injured, appearing to have been hit with a shovel, and was being taken to a vet.

The snake, found at Glinks Gully in Northland, is believed to be a yellow-bellied sea snake.
