Watch: Extreme Hurricane Irma winds hit St Thomas in Caribbean leaving shed battered and mangled




High winds from Hurricane Irma have battered the Caribbean island of St Thomas with video filmed during the storm showing a tin shed being ripped from the ground. 

Hurricane Irma has hit several Caribbean islands already, leaving a huge trail of destruction in it's wake.

The Category 5 storm has left at least 13 dead and caused horrific damage and flooding across the Caribbean since making landfall on Wednesday.

The storm is still raging and the US states of Florida and Georgia have put evacuation procedures in place following advice that they will be the next hit.

Victoria University Professor James Renwick says hurricanes like Irma feed off warmer seas, so are more likely with rising temperatures.
