Watch: 'Baby burnout' gender reveal video being investigated by Aussie police

October 24, 2017

New South Wales Police are investigating after a video showed a baby gender reveal event featuring a car doing a burnout, producing thick clouds of blue smoke.

The video was posted on the Facebook page of Sydney Event Escorts on Sunday, news.com.au reported, but it has since been deleted.

In the video, a man and a woman can be seen watching on as a Holden Commodore rolls up before beginning a burnout on a residential street.

The car is fitted with specialty tires which emit coloured smoke while losing traction - the blue colour indicated the baby was a boy.

The man, watching on, can be seen lifting his partner into the air, overjoyed and laughing with happiness as the clouds of smoke rise into the air.

Police told news.com.au that Traffic Highway Patrol is now investigating the incident, and a spokesman warned that burnouts are illegal under Australia's Road Transport Act.

When Sydney Event Escorts was contacted by news.com.au, a man calling himself 'Sam' distanced himself from the video, saying his organisation had nothing to do with it.

"We just filmed it because they're neighbours ... I don’t know them," he said.

He said he didn't know the names of anyone involved, but the original post featured congratulations directed at "Bass & Shareen".

"When 2 become 3, Congratulations Bass & Shareen... it's a boy @sydney.event.escorts," the post read before it was deleted.

A man in a Sydney Event Escorts t-shirt can also be seen in the video releasing a bunch of balloons as the car does the burnout, but Sam said this man was not affiliated with his company.

"The man in the video was one of the people we gave a shirt away to," he said.

The organisation had also previously posted similar videos, but immediately deleted them after being contacted by media.

Several similar videos from other countries have been posted online in the past of burnouts being used to reveal babies' genders.
