A concert headlined by Kiwi artist Lorde could have been an early target for the man who killed 59 and injured more than 500 at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
US website The Daily Beast is reporting gunman Stephen Paddock rented rooms overlooking the Life Is Beautiful Festival at the Ogden apartment tower, quoting a senior law enforcement source briefed on the investigation.
"The source suggested that Paddock may have lost his nerve or simply changed his plans and checked into the Mandalay Bay Hotel on September 28," the Daily Beast reports.
Lorde was co-headlining Life Is Beautiful with Chance the Rapper.
Before the claims Lorde had already tweeted about the shooting.
"f***. feel sick for the victims of las vegas and their families. i'm so sorry," she said.

Paddock, 64, carried out the deadliest mass shooting in US history on Sunday night (local time) when he fired shots from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
The motives of the multimillionaire retired accountant, who was not known to be suffering from mental illness, are unknown.
The victims were among 22,000 attending the Harvest 91 country music festival.
Police found 23 guns in Paddock's hotel room and another 19 in his home in a retirement community in Mesquite, Nevada.
The current death toll stands at 59, with 527 injured, including 50 in a critical condition.
