Tropical Cyclone Josie kills four in Fiji, causing devastating floods in largest island of Viti Levu

April 2, 2018

The largest island of the Pacific island nation, Viti Levu, has suffered widespread damage over the weekend.

Four people have reportedly been killed in Fiji after Tropical Cyclone Josie brought flooding and high winds to the Nadi area.

Local Shiri Bahut Joolum told 1 NEWS the rain and wind had "started clearing on the western side", but he said he said he wasn't sure of the condition of the central division.

NC4 reported homes have been flooded and a strong wind and heavy rain warning is in place by the Fiji Meteorological Service.

Fiji Times say police are urging locals to move to higher ground. The death of two people in the outer area of Nadi were confirmed by police, after they were in a vehicle that was swept away, reports Fiji Times.

There have also been reports of the death of two people from Ba.

Fiji was battered in 2016 by Cyclone Winston, which totalled fatalities of 44 people.
