'I told her it was okay to close her eyes': Dad's heartbreaking post for incredibly brave daughter who fought cancer so hard

A photographer who posted a tear-jerking image of his cancer stricken four-year-old daughter in agony as she fought the fight of her life, has lost her battle.

Brave Jessica Whelan's story came to light after her dad Andy Whelan posted a heart-breaking black and white photo of her in serious pain as she fought her terminal condition.

The young girl from Lancashire, England was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in September 2015.

People who were moved by Jessica's story helped raised 76,000 pounds ($134,000 NZD) to help her enjoy the last few days she had to live.

Mr Whelan posted on Facebook this morning announcing the death of his daughter.

"I feel both sadness and relief in informing you all that Jessica finally found peace at seven o’clock this morning," said Mr Whelan.

"No longer does she suffer, no longer does she feel the pain of the physical constraints of her body.

"Now my princess has grown her angel wings and has gone up to play with her friends and loved ones.

"She will now watch down over her little brother and ourselves until one day we are reunited again.

"Last night she finally allowed me to hold her in my arms and we had a big cuddle as I told her how much I loved her."

Mr Whelan said he and his partner Nicki - Jessica's mother - have chosen to give Jessica's organs to scientific research...
