Toddler killed after being hurled nine metres in the air by inflatable jump pad

October 7, 2018

A two-year-old Nebraskan boy has died after him and his big sister were jumping on an inflatable bounce pad when a strong gust of wind hurled the kids more than nine metres into the air.

According to 9news, the Acuna family from Nebraska were visiting a local pumpkin patch on Wednesday (local time) when the tragedy occurred.

While his sister Gabrielle, five, broke her arm, her younger brother Caleb was trapped in the pad as it folded in half and carried him more than 30 metres.

According to the statement, the gust of wind occurred just moments after the children's parents, Edward and Berna Acuna, climbed off the jack-o-lantern shaped inflatable pad.

The toddler suffered a critical head injury and was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on Thursday after being taken off life support.

The pumpkin patch owner Josh Kadavy posted a statement on Facebook.

"We have been advised by our attorney not to take any questions. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family at this time," he wrote.

"It's been an extremely emotional situation for me and my family as well as the family of the little boy. We are continuing to lift the family up in prayer. Our love and continued prayers, JKs Pumpkin Patch Family."
