February 20, 2019

Shamima Begum who fled Britain to join ISIS at 15 has had her UK citizenship revoked by the British government.

Earlier this week she'd told media she now wants to return to the UK after giving birth to a baby boy in a refugee camp in Syria.

Begum's family lawyer Tasnime Akunjee says the family were "disappointed" with the decision and were considering "all legal avenues" to challenge it.

A letter attained by ITV news was given to Ms Begum’s mother today.

"Please find enclosed papers that relate to a decision taken by the Home Secretary, to deprive your daughter, Shamima Begum, of her British citizenship," the letter read.

"In light of the circumstances of your daughter, the notice of the Home Secretary's decision has been served of file today (19th February), and the order removing her British citizenship has subsequently been made."

Ms Begum told ITV news she is "not a threat" to the UK, but had no regrets joining ISIS.

"I'm a 19-year-old girl with a newborn baby," she said.

"I don't have any weapons; I don't want to hurt anyone even if I did have weapons."
