Taxi driver hailed as hero after returning stolen puppy to heartbroken Sydney family

September 27, 2018

Charlie the Labrador was saved thanks to the bargaining skills of Sayed Qaisar.

A quick-thinking taxi driver in Australia is being hailed a hero after reuniting a stolen dog with his family.

A security camera recorded a woman stealing a Labrador puppy from a western Sydney home on Sunday, and when she later hopped into Sayed Qaiser's taxi with the dog he suspected it wasn't hers.

“The woman asked me to take her to another home to drop off the dog,” Mr Qaiser told the Daily Telegraph.

Mr Qaiser used the trip to prove his suspicions, asking the woman what the dog’s name was - to which she replied it was her father’s and she didn’t know, despite previously stating the puppy was hers.

After arriving at the destination, Mr Qaiser offered to buy the dog and gave the woman NZ$109 and his sunglasses. He then took the pup to a vet, who was able to identify the puppy and send him home.

As a result, Charlie was reunited with his family.

Hayley Goddard-Brown told Daily Mail Australia having Charlie home was all that mattered.

"Having Charlie taken from us was a very emotional and tough journey for our family," Ms Goddard-Brown said.

“Without him we weren't complete, a part of our family was missing.

“But we are beyond happy to say he's back home with us where he belongs and safe. Our family is whole again.”
