A man has been fined in Taiwan after he posted an unwanted cat via an express parcel service.
Taiwanese news website UDN reports that a 33-year-old man with the surname Yang received a $NZ2848 fine for attempting to post the Scottish fold cat in a cardboard box which was taped shut.
An additional fine of $NZ1424 was given to the man for violation of the Statute for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases as the animal hadn't been vaccinated for rabies.
When contacted by officers of the New Taipei City Animal Protection and Health Inspection Office, Mr Yang said he tried to give the cat away as he "no longer had time to look after it".
Mr Yang was tracked down by authorities by tracing him through the delivery service and surveillance footage.
