April 26, 2018

A 12-year-old boy survived a harrowing ordeal in a US resort's pool when his leg got stuck in a suction pipe, trapping him underwater for more than nine minutes.

Footage of the March 19 incident at the Avistar Resort in North Myrtle Beach California was only now released by police and shows two boys swimming in the resort's Lazy River pool.

The curious boys then begin exploring a grate at the bottom of the pool, eventually managing to pry it open after numerous attempts.

One of the boys then dives into the open grate and fails to resurface.

Noticing his plight the boy's friend calls for assistance and adults can then be seen jumping in the pool to help with the rescue.

One of the rescuers can be seen in the footage diving down repeatedly to give the boy mouth-to-mouth while trapped underwater after being unable to free him.

The heroic effort managed to keep the 12-year-old alive until emergency responders arrived to free the boy and give him CPR by the side of the pool.

Police told Yahoo7 News the boy is alive and in hospital, but did not reveal any further details about his condition.
