Raw video: Immense container ships collide in Pakistan port sending containers plunging to the bottom of the sea

March 21, 2018

The incident took place at Karachi, with numerous 12m containers falling on to the shore and into the sea.

Two immense container ships collided at the port of Karachi in Pakistan yesterday with at least 21 containers falling into the sea.

In video captured from the wharf, Hapag-Lloyd ship Tolten was coming in to berth but cut in too close to another berthed ship, the Hapag-Lloyd Hamburg Bay. No one was hurt.

Several shipping containers can be seen toppling from the ship, their contents spilling out, and some were then filmed sinking into the sea.

It's understood that some of the containers contained imported vehicles.

An investigation is now underway into the collision, local media reports, and the cost of the cargo is believed to be in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Pakistan Navy is now assisting with the recovery of containers.
