March 10, 2019

Police in Queensland, Australia have warned members of the public to act with caution after a piece of mining equipment with radioactive substances was stolen from a vehicle last week week.

The device, a portable density moisture gauge often used by miners and geologists for surveying, was stole from a ute in the suburb of Bundamba, Ipswich, on March 6, Queensland Police said in a statement.

The gauge, which had been locked in a transport case, poses a serious threat to people if it is mishandled, police said.

Detectives are investigating the incident, and anyone who locates the item has been advised not to move the item but instead call 000.
