A terrifying road rage incident has taken place in Melbourne yesterday when a woman was targeted by an enraged man who opened her car door before allegedly threatening her life.

Video of the footage obtained by Australian radio station 3AW shows a man approaching Tammi Bourke's car in an aggressive manner.

The man then opens her door pointing at her aggressively and swearing loudly as Ms Bourke cowers in her vehicle.

"What is wrong with you?" she said to the man before pleading, "please don't hit me."

Ms Bourke told 3AW Radio the shocking incident began when the man cut her off and she raised her hands in reply.

She alleged that he told her "I'm going to kill you" during the moments he was yelling in her face.

"The worst part, I believe he had a two-year-old child in the backseat of his car," she told 3AW Radio.

Police are now investigating the incident.
