The find is a worrying indication of human impact on the planet.

A diver has found plastic waste at the bottom of the world's deepest trench, in a worrying indication of the extent of human impact on the planet.

US man Victor Vescovo broke the record for the deepest dive ever in a submarine at a depth of 11 kilometres to the Mariana Trench.

Mr Vescovo found a plastic bag and lolly wrappers, as well as four new species of prawn.

Scientists plan to test the newly-discovered creatures to see if they contain microplastics.
