A newlywed woman died yesterday after falling off a cliff while jumping for a birthday photo that was being taken by her husband in South Africa.
Jolandi le Roux, 31, was trying to create the illusion that she was jumping over the sun when she lost her footing and plunged 500 metres to her death at Lookout Point in Cape Town.
Her husband Andrew, who she married in September 2017 on the beach below Lookout Point, scrambled down the cliff himself, but was unable to reach his wife The Sun reports.
Warning signs reading "Caution! Strong winds and steep cliffs. Please stay behind the fence at all times," were reportedly ignored by the couple.
A paramedic who attended the scene told The Sun of Andrew's desperate attempt to save his wife.
"He risked his life trying to reach his wife but couldn't," he said.
"It was heart-breaking but it would have been suicide to go any further. It was just cliffs and a 60-metre drop to the rocks and sea below us."
