Kids are now spending around 20 minutes more a day online than they do watching TV according to new research.
The study by the UK's media regulator Ofcom has sparked concern that children increasingly prefer to be alone with devices rather than socialising with friends.
According to the report children’s time spent online came to an estimated average of 2 hours and 11 minutes per day, which is nearly the same amount as in 2017.
However, daily TV watching time fell by nearly eight minutes to an average of 1 hour 52 minutes per day.
YouTube was found to be children's most popular online destination.
"Following a substantial increase in use between 2016 and 2017, use of YouTube is comparable to last year and increases with age, with close to half of 3-4s (45%) ever having used it, rising to 89% of 12-15s," the report states.
Ofcom says the research was based on data from 1,430 interviews with parents of five to 15-year-olds along with 630 interviews with parents of children aged between three and four-years-old.
