A magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck in the northern Pacific Ocean off Russia.

The US Geological Survey records the earthquake as striking in the Komandorskiye Ostrova or "Commander Islands" today.
The quake struck at a depth of 10km below the seabed and hazardous tsunami waves are possible for the immediate area but won't reach as far as New Zealand according to Civil Defence.
There are no immediate reports of damage.
