Kiwi Chris Liddell gets a top spot with Trump – but what does it mean?

March 20, 2018

The Matamata-born businessman has now entered the red-hot cauldron of Trump's closest advisors.

Chris Liddell has long been in the President's inner circle and now the Kiwi businessman is taking a significant step up the chain of command.

He was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff and put in charge of driving President Trump's policy agenda.

Born in Matamata, a former CFO at microsoft and General Motors, Mr Liddell's already proven to be a survivor in this administration, but it will be a tough assignment - implementing policy for a President known to change his mind at a moment's notice.

First daughter Ivanka Trump is also a fan, today congratulating Liddell calling him her 'amazing friend and colleague.'

But it hasn't all been smooth sailing.

Liddell is facing a conflict of interest complaint for attending this meeting of automakers - when it's alleged he still had shares in Ford and GM.

Trump and Liddell are known to differ on issues like Climate Change, but they share views around curbing free trade.

Liddell is now a US Citizen.
