Graphic warning: Quick-thinking Chinese heroes save three-year-old boy who fell off electric tricycle into traffic

May 10, 2018

Samaritans showed some quick thinking to save a three-year-old boy who accidentally fell off an electro-tricycle at a road crossing in Gucheng County, north China's Hebei Province.

Security camera footage captured the dramatic scenes.

In the footage, a boy suddenly fell off an electro-tricycle after the vehicle accelerated at a green light, banging his head on the ground.

The driver of the tricycle was unaware of the accident and left.

The boy got up several seconds later and tottered towards the crossing.

A red car immediately stopped at the crossing, and two women got out and rushed to the child. The driver carried the boy and ran towards the electro-tricycle.

"I stopped the car at once, barely had time to shut the door. I just wanted to carry the kid. At that time, his mother had crossed the road to the opposite side, unaware that her kid had already fallen off. My cousin and I shouted at and waved to her. I carried the kid and ran towards her. She did not find her kid had fallen off until then," said Wang Xue, the car driver.

Fortunately, the child was not injured.

The driver violated the traffic rules as she stopped the car at the crossing. However, local traffic police said that she will be not fined as it was under emergency conditions.

"It is a traffic violation to stop the car in the lane with door of the front passenger seat open. But she was to save the kid. She took the move under emergency conditions, so we exempt her from punishment," said Yang Zhen, traffic police in command center of Gucheng traffic police brigade.
