A US television host has raised eyebrows after claiming on air he hasn't washed his hands in 10 years.
Fox News host Pete Hegseth made the declaration yesterday while he and his co-hosts discussed the issue of eating day-old pizza that hasn't been refrigerated.
Hegseth, who served with the national guard in Iraq during his 11-year military career, said he didn't see any issue with eating the pizza before backing up his statement with his personal stance.
"I don’t really wash my hands ever," Hegseth said.
"I inoculate myself. Germs are not a real thing. I can’t see them, therefore they’re not real."
After making the claim, Hegseth took to social media this morning to address the statement, delivering mixed messages to audiences who both agreed and disagreed with his remarks.
Hegseth said at points he was joking but at other times also supported others who don't wash their hands.
The 38-year-old was once reported as US President Donald Trump's preferred choice to take over the Department of Veteran Affairs, meaning he would have become responsible for the health of 20 million Americans.
