Families pay tribute to 'inseparable' high school sweethearts killed in Adelaide crash - 'they were planning a future together'

November 23, 2018

Two Australian high school sweethearts were killed on Tuesday when their car collided with another being driven by a teacher from their school.

Their families have paid tribute to the ‘inseparable’ pair Hayden Perkins, 17 and girlfriend 18-year-old Mikayla Eastwood.

Perkins was behind the wheel of a Mazda 323 when it collided with a Hyundai i30 about an hour inland from Adelaide, at Gemmels between Wistow and Strathalbyn.

Eastwood and Perkins both died at the scene.

The couple had been dating for two years and had only just finished high school, according to Nine.

"They were inseparable for the last couple of years, they were very close and they were planning a future together so it's tragic," Mikayla's aunt Colleen Kluske said.

Family and friends have made a GoFundMe page for them to help cover funeral costs.

In just over 24 hours they have collectively raised more than $21,000.

"Planning a funeral for an 18-year-old is something that is not put in the family budget," Ms Kluske said.

"This is just going to give Mikayla the send-off that she deserves.

"One tragedy is hard enough.

"For two families to be experiencing the same thing at the same time, it is incomprehensible.

"It is just too hard to imagine the pain everybody is feeling."
