In a region to the far west of China, whole families are disappearing.
They are the Uyghurs from Xin Jiang – thought the Muslim group prefer the name ‘East Turkestan’.
More than 10 million Uyghurs live there, along with other ethnic minorities.
But there are increasing concerns that Uyghurs are being captured and held in camps.
Exactly what happens inside, no one for sure because they’re surrounded by impenetrable walls and guards in watch towers and efforts by journalists to visit have been blocked by police.
The Chinese government insists they’re boarding schools to eradicate extremism, but the United Nations says it’s had credible reports that a million Uyghurs are being detained in massive internment camps.
Former detainees tell stories of torture and the indoctrination of communism.
There’s a small population of Uyghurs here, whose loved ones back home have fallen silent.
They’re pleading to our government to help stop what they say is an attempt to delete their race.
