Donald Trump pulls back from declaring a national emergency over southern border wall

January 12, 2019

US President Donald Trump has backed away from declaring a national emergency in order to access feudal funds to build his much-disputed southern barrier with Mexico.

In a roundtable discussion at the White House today he said the “easy solution is for me to call a national emergency ... but I'm not going to do it so fast.”

His comments come after a week of suggesting he would probably make the move.

Now he’s said he wants to give lawmakers time to act saying “this is something that Congress can do.”

The meeting included state, local and community leaders discussing border security and safe communities.
