A dog who tragically lost her litter soon after giving birth has found an unexpected new companion just days later.
Molly the beagle, who lives in southwest Victoria, Australia with her owners Elle and Sara Moyle, was going through a rough time when a baby possum jumped on her back – and decided she was home, Nine News reports.
"They've been inseparable ever since," Elle told Nine News today.
The possum, affectionately named Poss, was abandoned by her mum when she found Molly.
"They're an unlikely pair, and I think that possum thought Mol was her mother and vice versa."
"It's certainly uplifted her mood. They both needed each other, I think, so it's been a fantastic relationship," Sara added.
Poss, who is nocturnal, sleeps in trees near the Moyles' property during the day while her doting new mum keeps watch.
