'Bullying is unacceptable' – Ohio dad's punishment for misbehaving daughter goes viral

A father in the US who was told by his daughter he'd have to drive her to school after she was kicked off the bus for bullying has received worldwide reaction for his response.

Matt Cox did drive with his 10-year-old girl, Kirsten. But he remained in their heated car, driving slowly behind her on Tuesday as she was ordered to walk along the side of the Ohio roadway for eight kilometres in 2-degree Celsius weather.

It was the second time this year the child had been kicked off the school bus for bullying another student, Mr Cox said as he filmed a video for Facebook while driving behind her.

"Let me make this extremely clear: Bullying is unacceptable - especially in my household," he said. "I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is alright. Because I'm doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson and to stop her from bullying."

Mr Cox published the video later that day, and since then it has been watched over 16 million times and shared on the social media platform nearly 350,000 times. The vast majority of the reactions have been positive, with more than 160,000 people saying they liked or loved the video, and less than 1500 expressing shock, anger or sadness.

Mr Cox later updated the viral post to let everyone know that his daughter was safe.

"Lesson learned!" he wrote. "Still has all her extremities intact and is happy and healthy and seems to have a new outlook on bullying as well as a new appreciation for some of the simple things in life she used to take for granted."
