Child abuse allegations against Brad Pitt have reportedly been referred to the FBI.
Pitt's alleged physical and verbal abuse towards his children whilst aboard a private flight triggered his divorce with Angelina Jolie and is now subject to an FBI investigation, entertainment site TMZ is reporting.
Sources reportedly told TMZ that because the incident occurred in the air, the FBI have jurisdiction where the LAPD do not.
"LAPD is not handling any report or allegations into child abuse against Brad Pitt," spokeswoman Officer Jenny Houser told USA Today.
Jolie filed for divorce on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences.
Jolie asked for full physical custody of the pair's six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight, but has asked Pitt gets visitation rights.
"He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children," said a source close to Pitt, reports Daily Mail.
The Hollywood rumourmill spun into overdrive this week with allegations claiming Pitt's co-star in the new film 'Allied' was the cause of the split.
The actress subject to allegations, Marion Cotillard, has since addressed the rumours via Instagram strongly denying an affair with Pitt.
