Aussie Uber Eats driver who ate customer's meal faces international ridicule, scorn

October 4, 2018

A Melbourne Uber Eats driver has been shamed by media outlets around the world after a home security camera caught him munching on a customer's meal while waiting for him to answer the door.

The incident, in which he took a hot chip from the Uber Eats bag while standing at the front door, has caused some outrage and calls for greater food safety practices from the food delivery giant.

But not everyone is out for blood.

Australian radio personality Wil Anderson, whose Hot Breakfast radio show first exposed the CCTV footage, pointed out that the drivers aren't paid very well and rarely receive tips.

"If you can't get a tip, you've gotta get a chip," he argued.

Since the radio show, the story has been reported as far away as India, North America and the UK.

In a statement, Uber Eats said drivers can be banned from taking jobs if caught tampering with orders.
