Afghanistan war veteran becomes multi-millionaire after placing 50c bet

A British soldier who’s scored a record-breaking NZ$30 million in an online bet says he’ll use the life-changing funds to save his sick father.

Jon Heywood won a jackpot of $30,283,723 while placing a bet on online casino Betway's Mega Moolah game, The Telegraph reported.

The 26-year-old, who has toured Afghanistan, said he’s willing to "give it all back" to help his father, who is waiting for a heart and lung transplant.

"It's amazing. The first thing I will spend it on is the best possible medical treatment for my dad," he told The Sun.

"That's more important than anything. Family comes first."

I've never dreamed of driving a Bentley, let alone owning one. - Jon Heywood

The fortune is the largest payout in an online slot machine game.

It was by chance Mr Heywood even placed a bet at all - only deciding to deposit a total of around NZ$70 and make bet of 50 cents at a time, when a television advert caught his attention.

After seven minutes, he was a winner.

Naturally, Mr Heywood said he also plans on splashing out on a few big-ticket items, including a luxury yellow Bentley Continental GT.

"I never even dreamed of driving a Bentley, let alone owning one. I've got a Fiat Punto at the moment," he said.
