Aerial video taken yesterday shows widespread flooding across farms in the rural south Auckland area of Clevedon.
The Wairoa River rose about 3.9m, according to Auckland Council monitoring stations.
Many farmers were forced to move their stock to higher ground as their paddocks flooded.
The storm which caused the flooding also caused numerous slips around the country and some roads remain closed.
A wet and wild day in the north has downed trees and cut off roads in Northland, Auckland and the Coromandel.
Parts of the Coromandel have been cut off after heavy rain left major roads in and out totally under water.
The storm is part of a nasty weather front that has swept through Northland, Auckland and the north east coast of the North Island, made worse by king tides.
