North Island, cloud increasing in the west with chance coastal showers, but fine in the east. South Island, rain in the west, easing later. Elsewhere, a few showers spreading north with a southerly change.

North Island, Cloudy with showers about Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. A fine start in the Bay of Plenty and central plateau, but a few showers developing later. Elsewhere, some morning showers, then becoming fine. South Island, Showers in the east becoming isolated early, clearing later. Fine in the west, but cloud increasing about Fiordland later.

Chatham Islands

Fine spells for the weekend. Northerlies, turning southerly for a time on Saturday. A few showers on Monday as winds change southerly, then both easing.

For all of the North Island

Fine weather. However, isolated showers for Gisborne, and the ranges of Hawkes Bay and eastern Bay of Plenty, clearing this evening.

Nelson and Marlborough

Situation
A ridge of high pressure lies across central New Zealand today. Northerlies strengthen over the South Island on Friday ahead of an approaching front. The front affects the South Island during Saturday, then moves north onto the North Island on Sunday. Another ridge covers New Zealand on Monday.
